I genuinely cannot believe I have not added a song by Duran Duran before now, they are a long standing favourite. Perhaps subconsciously in an effort to be cool I've stayed away from this sort of pop. I hope that is not true, that it is merely a temporary insanity on my part. Ordinary World makes me want to join in and sing freely, just a fabulous vibe. For such a melancholy song it makes me feel incredibly upbeat! Enjoy

This song has got to evoke a reaction from you. If it's like me then you'll feel elation, then disappointment. Elated as it brings back good memories and you can't help but still love the catchy chorus. THEN you watch the video and boy it is really embarrassing, what a state, especially the girl in blue.

Sorry nostalgia has taken over me with this one. Such a feel good song. The music makes me smile, the video makes me smile, it just makes me smile. I dare you to listen again and it not bring a little happiness into your day. Just looking at Jarvis Cocker is enough to make my life better. I will post something more contemporary next I promise!

I can't believe I haven't added this tune before now. The rhythm and beat is spot on. Yes it's repetitive, but that seems to make it even better. I have made a number of sound systems cut out because I've had this up too loud. Daft Punk are as close as we get to a modern day Kraftwerk. This video is entertaining too, and must have taken a lot of choreography, in fact I did wonder by the jerky movement if they danced to the music at a slower speed, then it was sped up?? Whatever they've done it works for me!

Beautiful song and a great video! Sit there and let it soak in. Watch the video closely as it follows the song, especially the dad when he see's the different beasties. I bought their album a couple of years back which I liked, its raw and not over produced. I was hoping to see them perform but I think they may have disappeared forever now.

If there was ever a song I wish I could have written it would be this one. I love the tone of this too. I was trying to work out where the video was shot for this. My best guess is Dubai because of the construction going on in the background. Thats only a guess mind.

Bittersweet symphony is a fantastic track, with the excellent violins bringing quality and depth to the tune. Better still is this video, watch it, it's excellent.

For some this may be a blast from the past. This song ticks two of my boxes, one is the Synth/Electro style and two it is one of my favourite nostalgic dance tunes. I first heard this when watching Breakdance the Movie on video at home (aka Breakin). This tune had one of the best dance scenes in all the film, with the guy 'Turbo' (that's a street name.....everyone should have a street name) doing the Moonwalk. (ha ha I do realise how ridiculous I sound) Thing is, this tune is very listen-able, you will enjoy it.

Back to Life - Soul II Soul

I have added this video on my 'other ' blog in the past, but I can't ignore that i'm a Gary Numan fan. I saw his show at Brighton about 6 months ago and his performance of 'Our Friends Electric' was excellent, much heavier than the original, but I love it. Watch the video and turn it up if your bass can cope. I was like those guys pointing up to the stage during the woooaaa's.

I haven't really done any proper 80's music on this blog so far, this is the first. I was seeing friends last night when Yazoo were mentioned, and its from there that my mind moved onto Depeche Mode. I love Synth and Electro sound and this was an excellent early song by these guys. Look at Vince Clarke in the video, he's got 80's hair and seems to be singing, not his normal android self showing no emmotion or life. (like that fella from Sparks)

I love wartime swing music and I can solely lay the blame on that at my fathers door. With all his sins I must say he has a good sense of rhythm and half-decent taste in music. I have been to see the modern version of the Glen Miller band when they did a concert at Polesden Lacey in Surrey. You can't get bored with this music, and from here my appreciation for composers like Gershwin and singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong was awoken. Turn it up!!!!!

Moving - Supergrass

Supergrass are one of my favourite Britpop bands. The energy from these guys just works for me, this song is a genuine great. I could have included a number of other singles like 'Alright' or 'Pumping on your Stereo'. Would definitely like to see them live if I get the chance. The new Album is due out soon, and I'm guessing the gigs will follow. The embedded video I have included is the song only i'm afraid, but that is good as it means less distraction from the music. Ok Ok there has to be a point where I have to admit my major musical mishaps. The biggest and most shameful of these is in the form of my first single record bought as a kid. Why couldn't it be Gary Numan's - Cars or One step Beyond - by Madness, i'd even have settled for Kids in America - by Kim Wild!!! No this is my shame ...Never Gonna Give You Up - Musical Youth........why me? Couldn't my 5 older brothers have stopped me, or my mother sent me to bed till I had got some taste in music. Even that classic by them, Pass the Dutche (which other people would have heard of) would be something. It's not to be....so here is my shame

It was listening to random tracks on my mp3 player and I had this song come on, Blondie has to be the pick of today, this tune is immaculate. Why did Debbie Harry have to get old, it's just unfair! Her punkish style has been mimicked through the decades (i was about to list the people I could think of but there were so many I gave up in the end....including Wendy James from Transvision Vamp.....better stop there) but here's the original and the best.

These two tracks by the Monkees are probably their most famous. I thought of them as I'm suffering from a stinking cold with a harsh cough that is keeping me up all night, and wanted some 'happy' music that doesn't annoy me. Listening brings back thoughts and images of coming home from school as a nipper in the 70's, being able to watch the Telly without my dad being there and changing the channel. Sitting around the gas fire and eating a cheese sandwich with my orange squash.

Daydream Believer - Is just the song with images of the group.

As a rule very few songs sound better when they are cover versions. This is an exception to that rule. Don't think oh its Leona Lewis i'm not listening to that rubbish. Seriously now, click, sit back and listen. Then tell me it doesn't move you at least a little. I think this is beautiful and the feeling in her voice comes through, she sings this just as well, maybe even better live.

This tune was chosen by my mate Lingham from India, thanks for introducing this to me mate! I like the vocals, and the general production is very polished. The music comes from the soundtrack to the movie 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa'. A R Rahman aka the Mozart of Madras is hugely famous worldwide and composed for the recent hit movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'. See if you agree with me that it is smooth.

Paul McCartney/Beatles - For no one

This is it, my favourite Beatles track, probably the most simple (or at least as simple as 'Yesterday') and least known of them all. It's the simplicity that I love. This version is taken from Paul McCartney's movie, 'Give my Regards to Broad Street', from 1984. The film wasn't the best thing i've ever seen, but there were some brilliant music scene in the movie. If you can find it, rent it! Look at the movie trailer link above, see if you can spot the famous English wrestler, do you remember his name? Warning the recording level is quite low, so speakers may need to be turned up a bit.

When I hear Andrea Bocelli sing it makes me want to cry. I have tried to add more comment than that to this post, but everything I've typed sounds either soft or daft. Sarah Brightman my be irritating, but this works.

I posted this mainly because of hearing him sing with Mary J Blige at the Grammys. That performance was excellent, and I've never heard MJB sing so ...hard. It is worth a listen...here.

Suede - Electricity

Suede, another Britpop band that are no more! They are doing a one-off gig at the Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Amazingly they are still viewed as cool and sold out this gig immediately on release of the tickets. Its the 10th today and the tickets went on sale 5 days ago, but everywhere is wiped out and have been since day one. It does beg the thought that if they can demand this sort of rush surely it'll encourage them to start gigging again? I'd go!

It's the chorus of this song that I love, with the echo-y vocals. Again, ignore the video if you don't like it and just listen.

This has already been posted on my blog http://chux-pad.blogspot.com/ but it inspired me to create this new blog just about music that I like and want to share.

Top Loader, where I possibly got the idea of my hair in the profile picture, were formed in Eastbourne just a few miles from where I live. They have just reformed after a 5 year break and are penned to start gigging again this year, and should be doing the festival thing in the summer. I hope they can re-spark and produce some more music magic like this.
